Our Services

Weekly Pool/Spa Maintenance

Three Generations is your Dana Point pool service here to ensure that your pool or spa is clean, safe, and operating at peak performance. Dirty pool water is not a pleasant place to swim or play and we offer a weekly maintenance program that includes a full array of cleaning services.

One of our knowledgeable technicians will come to your home and perform a weekly pool cleaning routine that includes vacuuming the floor of the pool or spa, skimming off any debris from the water surface, clean all pool tiles and side walls, empty the skimmer and pump baskets, and check the chemicals of the water. The technician will inspect all of the equipment to ensure that it's working correctly when you want to enjoy your pool.

Equipment Repair

Our highly-skilled and knowledgeable staff are trained to perform all kinds of equipment repair work. If any component of your pool or spa equipment is faulty, needs maintenance, or has just stopped working altogether, we can repair or replace it. We have extensive knowledge and experience with all types and brands of pool and spa equipment as our team has worked with pool pumps, heaters, filters and motors. If it's an upgrade you need, we can do it. Three Generations has performed all of the latest and most popular equipment upgrades including salt water conversions, automated system conversions, LED lighting set-ups, and smartphone compatibility upgrades.

Filter Cleans

A filter clean is one of the most important things you can do for maintaining your pool or spa equipment and keep it working at the highest level of peak performance. A dirty filter forces your equipment to work harder and longer than it would normally need to work. That puts undue stress on the equipment and increases the amount of wear and tear, causing it to break down sooner than it might have had the filter properly maintained.

When we perform a filter clean, we take apart the filtration system, remove and inspect every filter grid for damage and then clean the grid. Once that is done, we replace all of the grids, re-assemble the filtration system, and add diatomaceous earth to coat and preserve the filters in your Dana Point pool so they are always working properly and protecting your equipment in the process.

Salt System Conversions

Our staff has been performing salt water system conversions on pools all across Orange County. A salt water system uses a salt water control board and a salt cell to eliminate the need for chlorine water in your pool. Many customers choose to go with a salt system over a chlorine system because they don't like the smell or feel of water that uses chlorine tablets to maintain the water. A salt system alleviates those issues entirely.

New Pool Start-Ups

New pool owners in Dana Point are always very excited about getting that new pool but don't always know what to do or how to do it when it comes to routine maintenance. The Three Generations team is ready to answer any questions a new pool owner might have about maintenance, balancing the chemicals of the water, and weekly cleaning service options.

Spa Covers

If you own a spa, you want to cover it up. A spa cover is ideal for keeping heat trapped inside of your spa and protects the surface from getting damaged by the relentless impact of the sun. A cover will also keep falling debris from landing in the water. If you are in the market for a spa cover, our team can help advise you on the best one that's right for your particular type of spa. The best covers are made of marine grade vinyl and foam, featuring an aluminum channel that allows for water to bead up and roll off the surface of the cover instead of pooling up and weighing the cover down.

Acid Washes

Pools that have been properly cleaned and well-maintained on a routine basis should receive an acid wash every five to seven years. Since this type of cleaning uses harsh chemicals, only a knowledgeable technician like one of our team at Three Generations should perform the work. This will ensure that it is done carefully, safely, and effectively to preserve the condition of your pool. We have been acid washing Dana Point pools for years and you can trust our technicians to do the job right.

The acid wash process involves draining your pool or spa, brushing the interior with diluted acid content to protect the integrity of the pool or spa surface. The tiles are cleaned and brushed and the water refilled and chemicals properly balanced. We also clean out the filters because the filtration system is such an important component of your equipment.

Equipment Upgrades

Among the services in which we specialize is equipment upgrades. The pool equipment you had installed three, five, even ten years ago is probably working great today. But with all the new advancements in pool technology, a pool owner has more options at his or her disposal than ever before. Owning a pool has become more cost-effective, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly in recent years and we have performed all of the latest and greatest upgrades.

These include connecting your pool equipment to your smartphone so you can control it from anywhere you wish, variable speed pumps for greater energy-efficiency, LED lighting that is brighter and costs less on your monthly bills, and automatic actuators that allow your pool or spa to turn valves with a simple push of a button.

Pool Light Repair

Swimming at night can be a lot of fun but not if you have to splash around in the dark. A pool light lets you and your family enjoy your pool once the sun goes down but a burnt outr bulb or a faulty fixture can make night swimming unsafe. If you are having an issue with your pool light, one of our technicians can come out to diagnose and fix the problem. Due to the nature of working with electricity underwater, only a trained technician should do this type of work. Three Generations has extensive experience in pool light repairs and we can be sure to preserve the tight seal of the lighting assembly to prevent water from flooding in and damaging the electrical system.

Do you educate on basic swimming pool care/daily care/testing?

We believe that an educated pool owner is our best customer because a pool that has been properly maintained is a pool that lasts. Our staff welcome every opportunity to educate new and veteran pool owners on daily care and testing so the pool or spa equipment is in good working order. Whether it's during an initial consultation or one of the weekly visits by our technician, we are happy to answer any question the customer might have about extending the life of his or her pool or spa.

Do you offer same-day or emergency service?

We realize that emergencies happen when you least expect and we are ready to help. We can provide service inside of a 24-hour window for customers who need an urgent cleaning or repair of their pool or spa equipment. One of our skilled technicians can address the problem and take any necessary actions in 24 hours or less. We don't charge for this service either, the rate for an emergency service call is the same as you would pay for any other routine visit because we want to offer superior customer service that is reliable and available when you need it.

    Do you fulfill pool installations?

Three Generations Pool and Spa offers weekly pool cleaning services, equipment repair, replacement, and upgrades. The only service that we do not provide our customers is pool or spa installations and resurfacing. But we have established good, long-standing relationships with some of the best companies that do this type of work throughout Orange County. We feel comfortable referring one or more of these companies to our trusted customer base as we have done business with these service providers in the past.

What is your price for pool or spa service?

Our pool and spa services include cleaning/servicing and equipment service or repair. The prices for these are as follows:

Spa Cleaning: $70 to $80 per month. At that cost, we have a technician visit your home once a week for spa cleaning. Customers with a portable or an in-ground spa can make good use of our weekly maintenance service.

Pool Cleaning: $95 to $105 per month. At that cost, we have a technician visit your home once a week for a weekly cleaning of your pool.

Keep in mind these are approximate estimates. For an exact estimate of the cost for weekly cleaning services for your pool or spa, we would need to visit your home and assess the size and condition of your pool or spa, the equipment, and any surrounding elements near the pool like trees, leaves, and other obstacles that can interfere with the servicing of your pool or spa During that initial consultation, the technician will test the water and the customer can take the opportunity to ask any questions he or she may have about our services and the manner in which they are performed.

The costs for equipment service or repair will vary depending upon the service or repair work needed. Parts and labor will affect the overall price for service to address the problem.

Are there extra charges other than the monthly fee for a pool/spa cleaning?

The monthly costs described above cover all of the cleaning services that are provided each week. There are no other extra charges or fees for that service. The only work that monthly cost does NOT cover is for a filter clean. If you require that service, the cost is $100. We suggest that you have your filters cleaned twice a year because the filtration system is essential for your pool or spa equipment to work properly and keep your water clean and clear. A filter clean includes cleaning and inspecting all of your system's filter grids and adding diatomaceous earth to keep them protected and in good working order.

What services do you provide on a weekly basis?

The services that we provide each week are designed to make sure your pool or spa is always clean and healthy to use anytime. That means any and all debris is skimmed off the surface of the water, the floor vacuumed, the tiles and walls of the pool brushed, the skimmer and pump baskets emptied and the chemicals in the water balanced properly.

Each cleaning visit takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes based on how much work is needed to ensure that your pool or spa is fully cleaned and safe. But don't worry, the technician will not leave until you are completely satisfied with the work that has been performed. Remember, that quality control card will be left with the pool or spa equipment so the customer can track all service calls and any changes that might have been made over the course of each month.

Why is it so important to keep my pool chemically balanced?

A chemical imbalance in your pool water can have significantly damaging effects on your pool and the equipment. It's also unsafe to swim in because it can lead to health risks for you, your family, and anyone else who might take a dip in your pool. Improperly balanced chemicals in the water can mean there is too much or too little chlorine and that can cause skin irritation, eye irritation, or leave you and your loved ones swimming and splashing around in badly contaminated water.

The pH level of your pool water is also an important factor to consider when it comes to keeping your water safe for your family and your pool. When the pH levels are not where they should be, the surface of the pool and the equipment can become corroded. This is also very bad for your pool.

What is the difference between salt and chlorine systems?

The difference between a salt system and a chlorine system is not the existence of chlorine in the water but how the chlorine gets into the water. Chlorine is essential for keeping your pool water safe and healthy.

But a chlorine system relies on chlorine tablets while a salt system relies on salt and a special generator for introducing chlorine in the pool water. The main reason why a customer might request having a salt system instead of a chlorine system is to avoid the use of the harsh chemicals that are found in chlorine tablets. The smell can be a bit overwhelming for some and lead to irritated eyes, dry skin, and even discoloration of the hair. It's not the chlorine doing all these things, it's the chemicals in the tablets that are contributing to these problems.

With a salt system, there are no chemicals used in the making of chlorine, only salt. This keeps the pool water more gentle on the eyes and skin and won't discolor hair since this form of chlorine is in a purer form.

    What causes algae?

Algae can form from sources that are all around your pool or spa. The environment is filled with spores that can cause algae and when those spores end up in your pool water, it acts as a catalyst to help the algae spores grow and proliferate along your pool water and the pool walls. Algae spores that are left to bloom in standing water spread very quickly and when it's your pool that has started to get overgrown, the pool and the equipment can suffer greatly. Not to mention the ugly green slimy appearance of algae that is unappealing for anyone to swim in.

Those are just some of the reasons why algae must not be allowed to spread or you could be spending a lot of money on repair and replacement costs. The best way to avoid all of that is with weekly cleaning and maintenance, keeping the chemicals balanced in your pool water, and cleaning out the filtration system on a regular basis.

Poor maintenance causes algae. You can prevent that from happening by giving us a call. Nobody wants to swim in a slimy pool.
