Weekly Pool/Spa Maintenance

Three Generations Pool/Spa is your San Juan Capistrano pool and spa services provider dedicated to keeping your pool or spa safe, clean, and working at peak performance every time, all of the time. It's vital to the health and safety of your family and your pool to ensure that your water is clean and chemically balanced so it's a safe place to enjoy a hot day.

Weekly maintenance of your pool or spa is the best way to avoid the perils of algae and improper pH levels that can cause significant damage. With our weekly cleaning service, a technician will come ot your home and vacuum the floor of your pool or spa, skim the debris floating on the water's surface, scrub the side walls and tiles, empty the baskets of the skimmer and pump, and check and adjust the chemicals in the water. The pool or spa equipment is also inspected each week to make sure everything is running smoothly.

Equipment Repair

In the event that our technician finds something is not working properly or you have come across an unexpected problem operating your pool or spa, our staff is trained to perform all types of equipment repair work to fix the issue. We have worked with all types and brands of pool and spa equipment including pool pumps, filters, motors, and heating units. We can even perform equipment upgrades to bring older equipment into the modern era with salt water conversion, automatic system conversion, smartphone capability, and LED lighting. You name it, we can do it at Three Generations.

Filter Cleans

A clean filter not only keeps your water crystal clean but also helps you to preserve the life of your pool or spa equipment. When the filter is dirty, it taxes the filtration system forcing it to work harder and longer to get the job done. This can put undue strain on your pool or spa equipment and increase the amount of wear and tear on the entire system. This can shorten the life of your equipment and have you facing a breakdown much sooner than you might expect. That's why it's so important to have your filtration system inspected and cleaned on a routine basis.

A filter clean is a simple procedure in which the filtration system is taken apart, the filter grids removed and inspected for damage or other signs of wear and tear. Once that phase is complete, the grids are replaced, the filtration system put back together, and diatomaceous earth added to coat and protect the filters in your pool.

Salt System Conversions

When it comes to upgrades, perhaps the most popular that we perform every season throughout San Juan Capistrano is the salt water system conversion. This is when a typical chlorine pool is converted to a salt pool using a salt water control board and a salt cell which completely eliminates the need for using those bulky chlorine tablets to balance the chemicals in the pool.

Many of our customers in Orange County go with a salt system over a chlorine system because they have grown tired of the strong, pungent odor and the dry skin that comes with the use of chlorine tablets to maintain the water in their pools. A salt system has neither of those effects.

New Pool Start-Ups

Are you a new pool owner in San Juan Capistrano? If so, we are here to help. Many new pool owners are still learning about the best ways to care for their pool and preserve the life of the equipment. Don't be intimidated by caring for your new investment, the team at Three Generations has all of the answers to your questions about responsible maintenance, chemical balance of the water, and routine cleaning.

Spa Covers

New spa owners may also have questions about their new purchase. One of the questions we get most often refers to whether or not a spa needs a cover. We highly recommend that you place a spa cover over your spa as it helps to keep the heat trapped inside the spa and protects the surface from any damaging impacts from the sun and falling debris from surrounding trees. If you are interested in purchasing a spa cover but are unsure which one is best for your spa, we can advise you about the best choices available on the market right now.

Acid Washes

Even a well-maintained pool needs an acid wash every five to seven years, depending on how often it is used by your and your family. But an acid clean requires the use of stringent chemicals so it should only be performed by a technician who has extensive experience in this type of work. Three Generations Pool/Spa has been performing acid washes on San Juan Capistrano pools for decades, we know how to do the work safely and effectively.

The process starts by draining your pool or spa. Once empty, the interior is brushed with a diluted acid mixture that cleans and protects the integrity of the interior surface. The tiles are cleaned and the water returned back into the pool or spa. That water is chemically balanced and the filtration system inspected. It's a full service job that preserves the life of your pool or spa.

Equipment Upgrades

Older pool equipment could use a little refresher from time to time and Three Generations Pool/Spa specializes in doing all of the latest conversions and upgrades. These improvements can help make operating your pool or spa more convenient and more cost-effective than ever before. Some of the most common upgrades we have performed include smartphone compatibility to allow you full control of your pool or spa from your phone, automation systems for turning valves in your pool or spa with the simple push of a button, variable speed pumps that are more energy efficient, and LED lighting that is brighter and less expensive to operate than traditional lighting.

Pool Light Repair

Swimming in the dark can be dangerous. Someone can get injured without proper lighting in the pool. But if your pool light fixture is not working properly or it's just the matter of a burnt-out bulb, one of our technicians can come out to assess and repair the issue. If a replacement is needed, we can upgrade your pool lighting to LED or simply replace the lamp housing you currently have. This type of work should only be done by a professional as an improper seal on the lamp assembly could cause a leak and damage your pool's electrical system.

What is your price for pool or spa service?

Our prices for pool or spa services are as follows:

The prices for pool cleaning are $95 to $105 per month. For that price, one of our technicians visits the home once a week to perform maintenance services on your pool.

The prices for spa cleaning are $70 to $80 per month. For that price, one of our technicians visits the home once a week to perform maintenance services on your spa. We can do this type of work on either portable or in-ground spas.

These prices are approximate estimates. To get an accurate cost of cleaning services for your pool or spa, our technician would need to come visit the home and assess the work necessary along a variety of factors. These include the size and condition of the pool or spa, the type of equipment, and any specific surrounding obstacles that would make servicing the pool difficult. This would all be done at the time of the initial consultation. At that same time, the technician will test the water.

The prices for equipment service or repair will vary based on the service or repair work that is necessary. Each job of this nature is priced on a case-by-case basis depending on parts and labor.

Are there extra charges other than the monthly fee for a pool/spa cleaning?

The monthly fee you are quoted for pool or spa service is the price you pay each month. There are no further charges or fees for cleaning. The only work that would cost extra is a filter clean, this is not included in weekly cleaning services. If you would like to request a filter clean on your pool or spa, the price is $100.

It is recommended that you have your filtration system cleaned twice a year to keep your equipment working at peak performance. The filtration system is vital for keeping your water fresh and clear and your equipment working correctly.

What services do you provide on a weekly basis?

During each week's service visit, the technician will vacuum the floor of your pool or spa, scrub the tiles and sidewalls, clear out any debris floating on the surface of the water, empty the pump and skimmer baskets, and check that your water's chemicals are balanced properly. The equipment of the pool or spa is also examined to ensure that everything is in good working order. Each visit typically runs from 15 to 30 minutes to complete every task.

Why is it so important to keep my pool chemically balanced?

Keeping your pool water properly balanced is very important for protecting the pool and, most important, protecting the health and safety of you and your family. A chemical imbalance in the water might result in too much or too little chlorine, both of which are detrimental as the former can leave you with eye and skin irritation, the latter can result in contaminated water that is unsafe to swim in.

pH levels are another concern as corrosion can start to form on the surface of the pool's interior and the equipment. This can damage the pool and pose health risks for those who swim inside of it.

What is the difference between salt and chlorine systems?

Chlorine is an essential component for keeping your pool water clean and safe. But the way that chlorine is introduced to the water can be done with the use of chlorine tablets or salt. With the latter, a special generator is used with salt to produce chlorine. Those chlorine tablets can leave behind a strong smell and leave eyes irritated, skin feeling dry, and even hair discolored. But it's not the chlorine doing it, these are a by-product of the chemicals used to create those tablets.

But with a salt system there are no chemicals, only salt. This makes the water gentler and softer on the eyes, skin, and yes, the hair.

    What causes algae?

Standing water that isn't treated with chemicals can become breeding grounds for algae. The spores that cause algae can come from a variety of sources in the environment around your pool. When those spores land in the water, they can bloom and spread to form a green slimy presence on the top of the water and along the sidewalls of the pool.

This is one of the reasons why it's so important that your pool water is chemically balanced, otherwise algae can thrive instead of die out upon impact with the water. Let's face it, no one wants to splash around and swim in slimy green water.

Poor pool maintenance causes algae and when it builds up, the equipment of your pool can also become damaged and that means high repair bills and expensive replacement costs. Weekly cleanings and water with the proper chemical balance are two of the best ways to stop algae from forming and ruining your pool.
